 Director of Facilities

 

Private school in Buffao is seeking a Facilities Director.

Teh school is an independent day and boarding high school for college-bound girls. Founded in 1851, SEM is located in the historic Elmwood Village neighborhood of Buffalo, New York and is registered on the National Register of Historic Places. Our five student and faculty residences are renovated historic homes adjacent to our school building. The students come from diverse backgrounds – united in their ambition for a superb and challenging education – can find a comprehensive program that prepares them well for both college and lifelong endeavors.

Tasks/Duties Performed - The responsibilities of the position will include, but are not be limited to:

Managing additional maintenance employee(s)

Provide training and insure that all work is performed in a professional manner while following all applicable safety rules and regulations.

Maintaining all grounds maintenance including grass cutting, trimming bushes, planting flowers, snow removal, salting roads and sidewalks.

Moving furniture, hanging pictures, banners and other signage.

Assembling, repairing chairs, desks, shelving units, etc.

Maintaining school vehicles while adhering to all DOT and NYSED regulations.

Assist with event set ups and breakdowns as needed.

Oversee the school's athletic field (Larkin Field) including but not limited to landscaping, irrigation, lining of the field and scoreboard.

Complete and file in a timely manner all required paperwork for NYSED

Schedule and oversee all areas of safety inspections and repairs that could include the following: fire extinguishers, alarms, elevator, emergency lighting and fire suppression system

Manage all outside contractors as well as arrange for multiple bids for any job more than $5,000.

Serve as staff support for the Buildings and Grounds committee.

Any other duties as assigned by the Head of School.



Qualifications:

Responsible and reliable with the ability to work effectively within department and/or teams.

Must possess a valid driver's license.  CDL license a plus or willingness to obtain CDL for driving of school buses within 90 days of hire date.

Ability to lift up to 35-50 pounds and must be physically able to reach, stretch, bend and walk during a daily routine.

Willingness to work outside of normal work hours if required.

High school diploma or GED at minimum.

Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical a plus.

Ability to read blueprints.

Ability to give clear direction to other maintenance personnel.

Stationary Engineer preferred but not necessary.

 



 

Position is full time, 40 hours per week, exempt staff and may require additional hours during peak periods or inclement weather. Benefits are available the first of the month following the date of hire and include health, dental, vision insurance, and fully paid life insurance. Eligibility for the 403b retirement plan is available to full-time employees upon hire and a 5% employer match after one year of service.  Time off benefits for holidays, vacation and personal time is included. Tuition remission benefits are also available for full-time employees and their qualified dependents.
